Working locally with the Marion community.

Raelene for Mayor of Marion

Remember to fill in your postal voting paper when it comes in your letterbox in the last fortnight of October, 2010. Working locally for the community as your Mayor of Marion, I will converse with residents giving you my time and energy. The Oaklands Wetlands, the Oaklands Crossing underpass, new businesses at Mitsubishi, the Hallett Cove Library and improved community halls are on my list for the next four years. I have learnt over the last eighteen years that as ratepayers you expect quality services from Marion Council, to create pleasant surroundings for working and living.

As your new Mayor for the City of Marion, I can use my considerable skills and knowledge to lead Councillors and Administration in fine service for ratepayers. I regularly attend Council meetings, workshops and many public events to meet you, chat to you, and listen to what you expect near your home and business. At community events in Marion, please come up to me, say hello, and discuss your concerns with me. Alternatively, you can now email me by pressing 'Contact Raelene' or phone (08) 8358 0689 to let me know your concerns for me to act upon.

Best Wishes,

Raelene Telfer

State Aquatic Centre at Domain

State Aquatic Centre at Domain

... will be opening in April 2011. Candetti constructions are building the international standard State Aquatic Centre with its indoor pools, seating for 4500, and recreation area of waterslides. Besides the State Aquatic Centre will sit the preventative medical centre, the GP Plus, and a free high-rise car park. Traffic and car parking issues will be addressed by a local area traffic management survey once the Domain is up and running. The Oaklands crossing bottleneck will only be solved when cars can underpass the train line. It is hoped that the new plaza will be used as the heart of Marion, a space for people to meet and mingle.

Oaklands Wetlands

Oaklands Wetlands

Stormwater rushes down the Sturt River Drain and out to sea. Waste stormwater from the Cities of Mitcham and Marion can be harvested for our local use and stored in the aquifer below. Marion Council and the State Natural Resources Management will be working with the the Federal Government "Water for the Future" program to complete the Oaklands wetlands for the water return of 200 million litres a year from the aquifer and distribution via separate purple pipes to irrigate local ovals and reserves by 2013.

Saving Water During Times of Drought

Saving Water During Times of Drought

Three years of drought have decimated our gardens and trees throughout the City of Marion. Lack of rain and River Murray water, along with predictions of a drier climate in future, have required you to adapt your water usage and your times of watering. Besides bucketing our shower water down the toilet, Jeff and I have put away the lawnmower, removed our lawns and replaced them with mulch. Local indigenous native plantings have assisted us to maintain a colouful garden with a variety of plants.
